Do you have a passion for service and leadership – and love to travel? Become a Huskie Alternative Breaks (HAB) site leader.
NIU’s HAB program presents students with non-traditional opportunities to travel to various communities in the nation and abroad during the university’s winter, spring or summer break to participate in service projects.
An alternative break is a service-learning trip where a group of college students engage in volunteer service. Each trip has a focus on a particular social issue, such as (but not limited to) poverty, education reform, refugee resettlement and the environment. Students learn about the social issues and then perform week-long projects with non-profit organizations.
Site leaders have the unique opportunity to help pick the social justice issue and project site for their own trip. Site leaders also will gain valuable leadership, organization and team-building skills throughout their participation in HAB as they prepare other participants for the trip.
For more insight on the role and responsibilities of a site leader, attend an information session from noon to 12:30 p.m. Monday, March 28, in Room 100 of the Campus Life Building. Complete the online application by Friday, April 1, for full consideration.
